BEAL'S CONJECTURE: If Ax +By = Cz where A,B,C,x,y,z are positive integers and x,y and z are all greater than 2, then A, B and C must have a common factor.
THE BEAL PRIZE. Since the publication of the article in the December 1997 issue of the Notices of the American Mathematical Society announcing the conjecture and prize, Beal has decided to simplify the prize at a fixed $50,000. Thus, the prize is now this: $50,000 for either a proof or a counterexample of his conjecture.
CONDITIONS FOR WINNING THE PRIZE. The prize will be awarded by the prize committee (Ron Graham, Charles Fefferman and Dan Mauldin). The requirements for the award are that in the judgment of the committee, the solution has been recognized by the mathematics community. This means either a proof has been given and the paper has been accepted for publication in a (reputable) refereed journal or a counterexample has been given and verified.
PRELIMINARY RESULTS. If you have believe you have solved the problem
and would like for us to look at a preliminary manuscript or
counterexample, it can be mailed to:
